This work was a part of a series I created using some found objects/materials combined with paper clay and was in part a response to a complaint from the student at the time who felt it was the fault of the materials the class had access to that was responsible for the quality of his resulting work. I challenged myself to use the same material they were working with to flush out armatures. This was one of several sculptures I created using minimally worked wooden pieces, a number of which had been pulled from my Great Uncle Clark Fitz-Geralds scrap pile combined with Paper Clay a relatively cheap and easily workable product. With a little more time building up varied colors of the clay and a lot of sanding time plus a little stain and the resulting sculptures took on a stone like feel.
